People who took our online class had this to say:
Last weekend I was feeling super anxious about the unknowns of the birthing process, particularly in light of Covid-19. I feel so much better now after having taken this course. I feel much more educated, adequately prepared, and the fear of the unknown - while not gone, is way more in check now. Thank-you!
I would recommend the Ottawa CEA to any first time parents! The course was very helpful and I came away with more knowledge and confidence about labour and delivery. The instructor was very knowledgeable and tailored the class to all needs (those having hospital or home births).
Honestly, it was easily one of the best online courses I have taken. The size of the group was perfect. I still felt connected to the instructor and the participants. Lilly did a great job of making us all feel included and part of the class, despite there be a screen between us. I don't have anything bad to say about it.
The prenatal course with the Ottawa Childbirth Education Association was extremely beneficial to my Husband and I. As first time parents, we felt that this course answered many of our questions and will definitely help us make informed decisions surrounding the birth of our baby. We would definitely recommend this course to any expecting couples!
This class got my partner and I talking practically about becoming parents: Where will Baby sleep? How will we maximize our sleep? What items do we really need? What kind of diapers will we use? We were given information (i.e. the pros and cons) on so many issues and were left to make decisions that work best for us. I really appreciated the class and would recommend it to new parents who, like us, just don't know where to begin planning life for three.
I am a first time Mom to Be and was very nervous about the prospect of actually giving birth. This class not only put my mind and body at ease, but also provided me with tools and resources that will make me more prepared going into labour, delivery, and even after care. Excellent course!!
My partner and I took the Pre Natal Class with OCEA. The class was hosted on Zoom, since the COVID-19 pandemic meant we had to have a virtual class. Our teacher, Julia, really made this class top-notch. We learned about all our different birthing options in Ottawa and what to expect from each, including any adjustments resulting from the pandemic. It was comforting to learn the current standard of care we can expect in Ottawa, and how this matches the most recent scientific information about birthing. The local information is really what makes this class worthwhile compared to reading a general pre-natal book. We left the class feeling informed and empowered in our choice of care and our choice of birthing place.
Erin's enthusiasm for babies, parenting, and supporting new parents really made the class shine.
All the hospitals are dropping their prenatal classes! You just can't learn this stuff solely online! Definitely check out Ottawa CEA.
Due to covid was online. Was actually more comfortable being home and not having to commute
Lilly is a wonderful educator. She has vast knowledge of the subject along with calm and reassuring demeanor, patience and excellent communication skills. We enjoyed listening and learning from her.
We were a bit skeptical going in to the class as so many friends have said they didn't find prenatal classes useful. We found both days of the course to be interesting and useful. I would not hesitate to recommend CEA to a friend or family member. Both my husband and I feel a little more prepared for the big day!
Julia was wonderful. Her voice is both lively and soothing to listen to. She’s also really hilarious. I loved the added bits of humour. She gave many opportunities to ask questions throughout the course. If she isn’t sure about something, she accesses her own resources/network and gets back to you with an answer. As COVID protocols are constantly changing within the healthcare domain (hospitals, birth centres, home births), I thought she was very knowledgeable about the current situation within each place. She was very knowledgeable about the birth process and the postpartum period for the family unit. There were many resources that we could access to facilitate some of the topics within the class that could need more attention either in the prenatal period or postpartum period (I.e infant feeding) which was great!
I was recommended Ottawa CEO Pre Natal by our midwife and I am so happy my partner and I took the course, as there was so much that we did not know! The 6 part class allowed us to digest and reflect on the information at a pace that helped ensure we fully understood the stages of labour, comfort measures available and post natal expectations. Our instructor, Michelle, was very personable, informative and answered all of our questions thoroughly. We certainly feel more confident entering the final phase of pregnancy after taking this class. Thank you Michelle!
This was the second course that we took with Ottawa CEA, and yet again our expectations were exceeded. Our instructor was incredibly knowledgeable, sharing balanced and informed views while fostering a relaxed and open learning environment. There was a very good mixture of lecture, discussion and hands-on activities (including the opportunity to try on various baby carriers, handle the many different types of cloth diapers, perform infant CPR on small dummies, etc.). We learned so much over the course of two days, and are very happy that we decided to attend. We feel much better prepared both for the months leading up to our baby's birth (we now have a better sense of what baby gear is really necessary) and the first year of her life.
Julia was great! She kept things light, down-to-earth, and didn't sugar coat things. We all tend to have ideas about what childbirth is like based on tv, movies and old-wives tales, but she was great at dispelling anything that may have mislead us in the past. Her knowledge and experience in the area of childbirth was incredibly helpful.
The class was very thorough, capturing the first weeks of having a newborn! The instructor was fantastic- thorough, knowledgeable, engaging, and made everything relatable to what being a first- time parent is like! I would take other courses offered, because I would feel confident that I was getting the best information to make choices from out there!
The CEA does an excellent job of providing an informative and cost effective class on child birth. My husband and I left feeling much more secure in our decisions about our labor and would recommend the class to anyone wanting to know more about the process, both physically and institutionally.
I would recommend this class to anyone. Even if you think you know it all, the setting allows you to explore so many options for childbirth. Ask your questions, talk to others in the group and see how other people are feeling about it. The class was amazing, but even the open discussions helped to open my eyes to new possibilities. Informative, comforting, empowering.
Lily was simply excellent! Truly a gifted educator and so engaging and compassionate in her teaching. Her clear care for the group especially during the time of COVID-19 was so much appreciated! My partner and I really appreciated every aspect of the course and the fact that she made it so personal despite the online format! Thank you so much Lily!
Erin was phenomenal. She is obviously very knowledgeable, but more than that, she is clear with her method of delivery and strikes me as honest and genuine. My husband and I felt like this course was worth it after day one with Erin, and it's because of how she gave us the information, as opposed to just the information itself. We learned a lot from Erin and are very grateful to her.
This class was an excellent resource for new moms and dads to be - highly recommended! Be prepared to learn a lot that your baby books don't tell you.
