Baby at the Table: a baby foodie class for the first-year

Are you thinking about introducing solids?   Not sure when or where to start?   Purées or Baby Led Weaning? We talk about it all.

The first year is a fine time to establish healthy eating habits, nurture positive relationships with food, and start family traditions.

Are they getting enough?  We will discuss current best practices and recommendations around baby nutrition (here and worldwide).

How do I know they are ready?   Special focus on babies’ physiology as they prepare to take in solids.

What to do if a baby chokes?  You will leave this class with knowledge, tips and confidence to feed and care for your family - even to help with digestion!

What about introducing Allergenic Foods?  Find out the latest recommendations on this topic.

Baby is eating solids and you want to connect with others, diversify recipes, or create mealtime routines?

You will receive quick recipes and ideas that pack a nutritional punch without making separate meals for you and your growing baby.

The facilitator, Brandie Lekovic, is an OCEA Prenatal Educator who offers personal coaching and counselling as a Doula of 20 years. You may have met Brandie in an Infant Massage class or years ago facilitating the Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program. In 2016, Brandie’s family traded travel to start a small farm where they participate in growing and raising food. Brandie’s rich and varied foodie history will provide tools that put you at ease and build excitement to bring your Baby to the Table.

People who took our class had this to say:

We dearly want to support the health of expectant families.

Very very pleased. I'm difficult to impress, do a lot of research on my own and have very high (some would suggest too high) of expectations with very low tolerance to incompetence....i give Julia a 10/10 :D

Pre Natal – with Julia Wykes

Lilly was incredible, she shared the information that can appear as quite daunting in such a calm, humble matter. At no point did she make my husband and I feel overhwlemed by the information abd when information felt overhwhelming, she ensured to make the time to calm all of our worries and answer all our questions

Yes: Ottawa CEA provided us with the best educational experience out of the multiple baby classes we took. The content is very well researched, concepts are explained clearly. Multiple perspectives for many issues are provided with evidence and encouragement is given to make your own informed choices with extra resources. There is no "fluff" and we felt much better about bringing a baby home after. I will be referring back to the resources from this course often. I highly recommend Ottawa CEA for expecting parents.

The online session was really informative. The instructor was very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions.

The course Bringing Baby Home was suggested to me, I had no idea there would be so many other options - what a great service to the National Capital Region!

What a wonderful human!! She was so nice and extremely informative :)

My coworkers highly recommended I take a course with Ottawa CEA. I’m so happy that I did. Ottawa CEA offers amazing options and resources for new parents and speakers to both the birthing parent as well as the birth partner. The language used is also very inclusive. The instructors are knowledgeable and they answer every question you have. I feel more ready leaving the course to have my first child.

Pre Natal – with Michelle Morra

Thank you so much! We learned a lot and feel much more prepared now for when baby arrives.

Erin was phenomenal. She is obviously very knowledgeable, but more than that, she is clear with her method of delivery and strikes me as honest and genuine. My husband and I felt like this course was worth it after day one with Erin, and it's because of how she gave us the information, as opposed to just the information itself. We learned a lot from Erin and are very grateful to her.

My partner and I took the Pre Natal Class with OCEA. The class was hosted on Zoom, since the COVID-19 pandemic meant we had to have a virtual class. Our teacher, Julia, really made this class top-notch. We learned about all our different birthing options in Ottawa and what to expect from each, including any adjustments resulting from the pandemic. It was comforting to learn the current standard of care we can expect in Ottawa, and how this matches the most recent scientific information about birthing. The local information is really what makes this class worthwhile compared to reading a general pre-natal book. We left the class feeling informed and empowered in our choice of care and our choice of birthing place.

Lilly was an absolute joy! She was very professional, but also included tasteful humour which made the discussions and content very enjoyable. She did a great job of engaging the participants even over Zoom.

Again thanks for all the work you've done to make the class accessible during this time and to update all the resources.
